A Woman Who Loves Golf. I guess, according to men, women don't REALLY love golf, they just do it to yak, socialize, have lunch, maybe have a toddy or two and then go home and do their nails. Well, for me, it started out that way. I had never played golf before.
I was raised in a small town of 900 but the community itself was very rural. As a matter of fact, only 3 of my classmates, like myself, actually lived in the city limits. If we were to do anything with a ball, it was a basketball. My hometown didn't have enough guys to field a football team. So, flash forward from the early 1950's to the late 1990's and I have the good fortune of being able to retire from a job that required a great deal of travel and weekend work. I loved it but there was no time for golf or any other recreational activity. I was not one of those women who had to follow the "bread winner" of the family around the country, moving every year or so. That kind of moving really teaches you how to make friends and make friends fast. So, when we moved out of state and I retired from my job, I asked, oh, my, how am I going to meet people? So, we joined a country club and I picked up a club for the first time at the age of 46. I started out in the "9 hole" group, took some lessons and I was on my way...To what? Well, I guess this is what this blog is about. The love of and addiction to golf. From that auspicious moment of joining the women's golf association, the "board" of the organization smelled fresh blood and I immediately was asked to be the secretary of the new board. 13 years later I've also been treasurer, vp, president twice, member/guest tournament chair, for years hospitality chair, women's most improved golfer and now I'm our golf coordiantor, which basically is the COO of the organization. I'm still a friggin' 16 handicap! Arrgghhhh! Oh, yeh, and what do you do to move that handicap down there sister? I'll deal with that point later. I'm going to pass on tidbits about how to run a women's golf association, how to run tournaments, my trials and tribulations, my up's and down's, and how I do in my tournament and match play events. Stay tuned....Fore!
