Your Very Own Solheim Cup

About 5 years ago as president of our women's organization, I decided to try and have our very own Solheim Cup.  The men's group had been doing their Ryder Cup thing for a while and as we have quite a few competitive women in our group, we decided to give it a go.
It has been so successful and everyone has such a great time, we now do a spring and a fall Solheim.  Since I'm Chair Woman Emeritus,  for each tournament I pick two captains.  I then give the captains the list of the ladies participating.  They peruse them and then we toss a coin.  The winner of the coin toss gets to select her first player.  We then alternate selections.  The captains then make their pairings.  The captain that lost the toss then gets to set the first foursome.  The entry fee is $25 and that goes to the winning team as well closest to the pin competitions.   The captains decide on team colors and/or name for their team.  The format has evolved into 3 "6's", 6 holes of a pure scramble, 6 holes of match play best ball and the last 6, alternate shot.  Since we usually have 32 players, we utilize both the front and back 9's to start.  Just make sure that the pro has all of the players playing the same format on the same holes.  You'll have to ask your pro how to handle the handicapping. We start around 12:30, knowing there will be 5 hour rounds (not condoned though).  We have our spouses come around 5:30 for drinks and then we have a dinner buffet and the winnings are distributed.  We have so much fun and harass each other.  It's a very easy tournament to host.  Sometimes, as with all competitions, you'll  have clashing personalities as partners or one trying to dominate the other.  But for those who like competition or would like to learn to play more competitively, it's a great tournament. This year we've had to impose a cancellation penalty.  Everyone must now pay upfront and if they cancel within one week of the tournament, the money pays for their replacement.  We had 3 cancellations within days of the tournament and had to bring in other players from other clubs.  So, sometimes things just go bump in the night...
