The Lack of Information/Apparel Available to Women Regarding Golf

There used to be a great golf store here in my city dedicated strictly to women.  If you wanted the latest in any golf attire or equipment, she had it.  Only for women.  It was a real treat walking into that store.
Unfortunately,  the number of women playing golf has diminished, as did her business.  After about 5 years in business, she had to close and she moved to Florida.  That left women having to buy from the sparse pickings for women at the now defunct Edwin Watts or Golf Smith.  Fortunately I live in a city where there is a PGA Superstore which has great selections for women.  If you're not familiar with them they have locations in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, and Texas.  Or you can find them on line at: https://pgatoursuperstore.com.  If you're within a few hours of one, it would make a great girls' day trip.  They have that much inventory for women.  But back to the comment on the number of women playing golf diminishing and the resulting consequences.  It was hard to track down numbers but I came across a site by Berkley Golf Consulting that had numbers up until 2010.  In 2007 the number of women golfing, meaning actually playing on a course, was 6.6 million.  In 2010 it was down to 4.7 million.  Why is that?  I know that in the numbers the site gave showed that older women tended to play more golf.  Well, duh.  They're retired and have more time.  It's also an activity that many retired couples take up.  My husband plays 3 times a week with the guys and once with me.  I play 2 times plus once with him.  At our club we're trying to get "junior" members.  Members that are 24-35 years of age.  They're all guys.  I guess women of that age are having children and staying home with them.

But back to the diminishing number of women golfers and the consequences.  The consequences:  Lack of information regarding equipment and training, availability of apparel and lack of women pro's.  We once had that wonderful magazine Golf for Women.  But lack of advertising led to it's demise.  Lack of apparel is evident by the dearth of women's clothing in even your own pro shop.  And female pro's?  Our pro has tried to find female pro's and they are so few and far between that they have a pick of a position.  The best way for a club to keep a female pro is to make sure you take lessons from them.  That's how they make their money.  I did find a web page for women tucked wayyyyyyyyyyy down on the home page of Golf Digest online.  It has lessons from female pro's, articles on women's equipment, exercises with Annika,  rules' advise etc.  Check it out:  http://www.golfdigest.com/golf-digest-woman.  Maybe if enough women check it out we'll get Golf for Women back.  Not in this life time.
